Yilan County is a county in Taiwan Province of the Republic of China. It is located in the eastern part of Taiwan's main island, adjacent to New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Taichung City, and Hualien County. It faces the Pacific Ocean to the east. It is the birthplace of traditional Chinese opera and Taiwanese opera. The county is located in Yilan. In the Qing Dynasty, an independent Kavalan Hall was established and upgraded to Yilan County. During the Japanese Occupation, the entire territory of Yilan belonged to Taipei Prefecture. After Taiwan's recovery, it was restored as an independent county. The National Development Council of the Executive Yuan classified the county as the northern region of Taiwan; while the Central Meteorological Bureau of the Ministry of Communications classified the county as the eastern region of Taiwan
