Taipei City, commonly known as Taipei, is the capital and municipality of the Republic of China. It is the development center of Taiwan's politics, economy, culture, education, business, academic research and other fields.
Taipei City is located in the Taipei Basin in the north of Taiwan. It borders New Taipei City on all sides. It is also the central city of Taipei Metropolitan Area and even northern Taiwan. The city is divided into 12 districts with a total area of 271.8 square kilometers. The total population is about 2.59 million, ranking fourth in Taiwan's cities and the first in population density.
Taipei is defined and classified as an Alpha-level international city in the 2020 World-Class Cities List published by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC), ranking 36th in the world comprehensively; in the US AT Kearney Consulting Company Ranked as the 33rd largest commercial and financial city in the world in the Global City Survey.
